SonicWALL

VPN solutions include integrated hardware and software

Founded in 1991, SonicWALL, Inc. designs, develops and manufactures comprehensive Internet security solutions that provide access security, value-added security services and transaction security products for a broad range of markets, including: SOHO, SME, enterprise, service providers, e-commerce, government, education and healthcare.

Hailed by industry publications such as InfoWorld, PC Magazine, Network World and InternetWeek for ease-of-use and high performance, SonicWALL Internet security appliances provide organizations with state-of-the-art security platforms that protect networks against Internet security threats. SonicWALL Internet security appliances have a worldwide installed base of more than 300,000 units protecting millions of computer users. By integrating its line of high-performance, solid-state firewalls with value-added security services such as network anti-virus, virtual private networking (VPN), strong authentication using digital certificates, content filtering and other security services, SonicWALL Internet security appliances deliver comprehensive security solutions.

In Q3, 2001 SonicWALL announced that it had acquired RedCreek Communications, Inc., a privately-held provider of VPN and policy management solutions. RedCreek enables large companies to provide secure access to their corporate networks from virtually any location. The company's VPN Solutions include integrated hardware and software packages that ensure the privacy of information as it is transmitted across public and private networks and allow companies to control access to their corporate resources. RedCreek products give distributed enterprises cost-effective management solutions for remote connections, ranging from dial up and DSL to T1 and high-speed OC3 lines. RedCreek’s customers include market leaders in the retail, financial services and technology industries.

The acquisition of RedCreek further strengthened SonicWALL’s leadership position in the enterprise market for VPN infrastructure solutions. RedCreek’s VPN appliances and policy management software complemented SonicWALL’s security products for a broader, more comprehensive enterprise solution.

SonicWALL was declared the unit market share leader of the Worldwide Total Dedicated VPN Hardware Market, with unit shipments totaling 13% in 2001. SonicWALL also tied for across-the-board market share leadership of the Worldwide Total Firewall Market, with unit shipments totaling 14% of the market in the fourth quarter of 2001.

In addition to leadership of the Total Dedicated VPN Hardware and Firewall Markets, SonicWALL leads in other categories. SonicWALL is both the unit and revenue market share leader of the Worldwide Mid-Range Dedicated VPN Hardware Market, with unit shipments totaling 27% and revenues totaling 16% of the market in 2001. As it has since 2000, SonicWALL continues to lead the Worldwide Low-End Firewall Market with quarter-over-quarter market-leading unit shipments and revenues, totaling 20% of unit shipments and 12% of revenues at the end of 2001.
